Construction Works at Istvanplatz in Greiz
Istvandukt is the name of the memorial dedicated to Istvan. "Duco" in Latin means "I lead".
The project aims to preserve the legacy of Istvan Sky and create a space for love, light, silence, and inner cleansing. This philosophy is embodied in bronze.
Istvan loved everything around him: people, nature, the sun, the rain, but especially music. Music was his heart, loving and compassionate, and he believed it was divine and eased life's path. Istvan lived in harmony with himself and was simply happy when he sang. One of his well-known compositions is "The Song of the Butterfly," a collaborative project with Estas Tonne, Pablo Arellano, and Indre Kuliesswift, recorded in June 2014.

Photo Documentation of the 2024 Site Clearance
Victor Dietel's House in Greiz, Germany, was built in 1894 at a street corner. It is not just a corner building: it stands between two streets, with three street-facing walls, and a driveway runs around it. In front of the house is a small open plot (75 m²). Its location in front of the historic building suggested the creation of a cultural corner here.
Previously, the plot, bordered by a one-meter retaining wall, was overgrown and disorderly. Over the past hundred years, with each new owner, it was covered with successive layers of fill instead of properly restoring it. The rainwater drainage and the granite-paved channel were buried, the sewer shaft was raised, and eventually it also ended up under soil. Pebble walkways disappeared, and the wrought-iron fence with gate was removed. In the end, it was no longer a cozy spot but an abandoned backyard.
Now the 1.5-meter-high mound has been removed, the plot cleared down to the bedrock, and it is level with the sidewalk.
Memory
We hope that Istvan will live not only in our memory, but also in this warm and peaceful place.
Invitation
If this project resonates with you, we invite you to share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions.
Signature Collection
We are collecting signatures to help accelerate this project.
The Istvanplatz memorial project faces several challenges. One of them is the presence of telephone distribution cabinets in front of the site, which need to be removed. Additionally, official permission is required to install the Istvandukt memorial. To address these issues, various authorities must be contacted. We believe that public support can positively influence these decisions. Therefore, we invite all admirers of Istvan’s creativity and philosophy, his students and followers, to add their signature. You may use one of the prepared forms or a blank sheet. Signed sheets can be sent by post. This signature entails no obligation — it is only for the history of Istvanplatz. You may write in any language. Thank you for your participation!
