Precision Vises on the Watchmaker's Table
Based on the precise parallel machine tool vise ESB (Swiss Made), I developed a mounting construction in my workshop that allows the vise to be quickly and conveniently fixed at an angle and also rotated completely around its own axis, with secure fixation.
Rail Plate like the 2021 Precision Vise from Bergeon
Watchmakers have a mounting plate on their table where the 2021 precision vises from Bergeon can be mounted. When not in use, they can be removed. These vises have some drawbacks, and there is no better solution on the market. The decision was quick: the effort is worthwhile, so I built my own vise.
Precision Parallel Machine Tool Vise ESB (Swiss Made)
I purchased a precise parallel machine tool vise ESB. It was inexpensive because it was not in like-new condition. However, the stability and accuracy of the construction offered good potential for modification after extended use.
Modifications to the Vise
I made the new jaws slightly wider and taller, while keeping the thickness as thin as possible to facilitate future work. The lower part slides into the mounting plate and is secured. When the vise is removed, the mounting plate remains on the table. The design of the lower part ensures that the vise sits higher above the table in a vertical position and slightly further away in a horizontal position. The tilt angle and rotation of the vise can also be changed quickly. The tilt range is 100°, the rotation 360°. For safety, I added scales. In all fixed positions, the construction remains stable.
