Pinion Tooth Polishing Machine Prata Type 11
The pinion tooth polishing machine was manufactured by Prata in Tavannes, Switzerland. It is used to polish the spaces between the pinion teeth.
The turned pinion blank produced by a CNC automatic lathe must be hardened and tempered. Afterwards, all technical surfaces need to be polished and brought to perfection. Polished surfaces reduce friction, for example on pivots or teeth. In addition, polished surfaces are less susceptible to corrosion. The pivots must be burnished, which compacts their surface. As a result, the pivots become stronger and more durable. In series production, pinions are mainly polished in tumbling machines. This process rounds the edges and does not polish the surfaces optimally. Therefore, I use specially designed machines for each working operation. They are not automated—everything is done by hand.

Fine finishing of an entire batch of parts produced on a lathe or automatic machine can be carried out with the highest precision using a pivot burnishing machine.
