Wall mural in Istvan's kitchen. Surreal tree, person, and bird.
Istvanplatz is a commemorative public space in Greiz, created in memory of the musician and philosopher Istvan Sky. The project combines architecture, sculpture, light, and spiritual symbolism.
This page is dedicated to the memory of Istvan — a Hungarian musician, a luminous human being, and a friend. His soul radiated love and kindness; his eyes shone with unearthly joy; his music brought peace; his voice carried listeners beyond the horizon; his presence disarmed; his philosophy healed. He gifted us his loving heart, the warmth of his embrace, and the joy of companionship.
Istvan Sky (István Jeszenszky)
10 November 1962 – 13 July 2024
Istvan Sky was an extraordinary and deeply humane individual who lived for others, seeking to make the world a kind and welcoming place. He possessed many talents: he wrote poetry, composed heartfelt music, and virtuously played numerous instruments such as guitar, sarod, tambura, zither, harmonica, kalimba, flute, hang drum, shamanic drum, and others.
Istvan had a naturally gifted voice — clear, high, and powerful. Through dedicated practice he expanded its range and mastered various vocal techniques, including high vocal registers, overtone singing, and throat singing.
Istvan Sky loved, felt, and deeply understood nature. His home was surrounded by green trees reaching into the windows. From early morning, birds sang in chorus with wind chimes dancing in the breeze. The courtyard was filled with the scent of mint. Before entering this magical world, one passed through wide, recognizable wooden gates.
Ancient forest surrounds the area, with paths leading to blooming meadows. Just a few meters from the gate stands his beloved oak, the Ölelő fa. Perhaps this tree listened to and knows Istvan’s secret thoughts. Nearby is a bench made by Istvan himself, where he would sit and listen to silence.
Istvan often spent nights in his yurt overlooking Lake Balaton. He preferred wooden dishes and walked barefoot. His life flowed calmly, without haste or rush — there were no clocks in his home. He lived in harmony with the world of flora and fauna.
Creative Work
Istvan Sky gave concerts in his yurt “Healing Garden” near the house Napfényszentély – Surya Sangita Ashram (Sanctuary of Solar Light). He participated in numerous music festivals, including Everness Festival, Fényünnep (Hungary), Icaros Festival Musica Medicina (Portugal), World Music Festival Delhi (India), New Healing Festival (Germany), and opened the Dakini Festival (Tusla) in Romania.
With his Healing Concert and Voice Healing Retreat programs, he traveled across many countries — India, Vietnam, Russia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Switzerland, Mexico, Guatemala, Poland, the Czech Republic, Argentina, Austria, Germany, and of course Hungary. His spiritual practice created an atmosphere of sincerity, intimacy, and elevated emotion; his voice carried both therapy and healing power.
Istvan Sky Memorial Corner — Istvanplatz
In front of the Victor Dietel building in Greiz (Germany) there is a small open plot of land measuring 75 square meters. In January 2024, we began clearing it. To level the site with the sidewalk, 160 tons of material were removed by hand, and a wall was dismantled. During the work, it became apparent that this place had no name. Throughout this time, Istvan was ill. The site was nearly completed when Istvan passed away. The very next day, the name of this place became self-evident.
Memorial Composition “Istvandukt”
In the original drafts, only a bronze obelisk was planned for the site. To lighten the structure, the obelisk’s faces were designed with illuminated stained glass. Istvan saw this concept. During our last meeting, we watched an animation of the composition together.
After Istvan’s death, the open space at the intersection was named after him, and the concept of the composition was revised. Additional elements symbolically connected to Istvan’s personality were added.
The memorial project is now complete. It is a composition of interconnected segments: obelisk, bench, radiant sun, waves, heart, flame, and tree — each element flows smoothly into the next, all contained within a single, spherical unity.
A brief geographical note: by coincidence, this place lies at the same altitude above sea level as his home Napfényszentély in Szentbékkállá, Hungary — exactly 273 meters.
Istvan’s family has given their consent to this project.
We understand that friends and admirers of Istvan's work may have questions regarding the details of this project's implementation. To make it easier for you to learn more, we have gathered all the essential information on the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page.
We hope that Istvan will live not only in our memory, but also in this warm and peaceful place.

Signature Collection
We are collecting signatures to help accelerate this project.
The Istvanplatz memorial project faces several challenges. One of them is the presence of telephone distribution cabinets in front of the site, which need to be removed. Additionally, official permission is required to install the Istvandukt memorial. To address these issues, various authorities must be contacted.
We believe that public support can positively influence these decisions. Therefore, we invite all admirers of Istvan’s creativity and philosophy, his students and followers, to add their signature. You may use one of the prepared forms or a blank sheet. Signed sheets can be sent by post. This signature entails no obligation — it is only for the history of Istvanplatz. You may write in any language. Thank you for your participation!
